Recover from chronic disease

Dealing with a chronic health condition and not finding the support you need? The conventional medical approach tries to answer “what?” (for example: inflammation) while a Functional medicine approach tries to ask “why?” (for example “why is there inflammation?). By investigating and then addressing the “why,” Functional medicine can often alleviate the “what.”

Chronic health conditions are due to a combination of our genetic potential and environmental influences throughout our life. These environmental factors include our exposure to microbes and infections, antibiotic and other drug use, nutrition/diet, lifestyle, exposure to toxicants, stress and more.

Whether you are dealing with an autoimmune disease, hormone issues, fatigue, CFS/FM, chronic Lyme disease or biotoxin illness, InHealthRVA will help you identify and heal the root causes of your health issues. We’ll work with you to develop an effective, evidence-based treatment plan and help you to experience a new level of wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine seeks to understand and address the root causes of diseases and symptoms. Chronic conditions are generally not due to just one cause, and if you have had chronic illness for a while, you know there is a lot of “collateral damage” that happens along the way as well.

While conventional medicine splits the body up between different specialists, each checking for their specialties' diseases and prescribing their pills to treat any sign or symptom, Functional medicine sees the body as one interacting, complex whole.

Functional medicine peels back the layers of different body systems dysregulation, supporting your body’s innate ability to heal and supporting true wellness.

While both conventional and Functional medicine utilize pharmaceuticals, Functional medicine also implements diet and lifestyle therapy, natural herbal and supplement protocols and mind-body work as part of getting to the root causes of your health conditions and helping you gain full health.

  • We combine advanced lab testing with an in-depth understanding of your health to try and identify the underlying causes of your health conditions. Then work with you on a personalized health journey to systematically heal these areas, utilizing everything from herbs to prescriptions to lifestyle changes and counseling.

Functional Medicine understands that chronic health conditions are the result of interactions between inherited predispositions and environmental factors we encounter throughout our lives. These factors include exposure to microbes, use of antibiotics and other drugs, nutrition and diet, lifestyle, exposure to toxins and stress.

By identifying and treating the variables that contributed to how we became unwell, we can hope to eliminate the causes of chronic health issues and also work to repair the “collateral damage” they have caused along the way.

Our aim is not just disease and symptom management but true wellness.

  • InHealthRVA’s investigative approach to understanding the root causes and “collateral damage” of your chronic health condition(s) is beneficial to most health conditions.

Our founder came to Functional medicine from a research perspective, seeking to better understand how the body works in sickness and in wellness. Once you understand how the body works, you can work to identify and heal the root causes of numerous, interconnected health conditions.

Combining this unique Functional medicine approach with primary care medicine allows us to improve the management of or even reverse symptoms and chronic conditions. These include:

    • Chronic fatigue

    • Chronic infections such as Lyme and EBV (Epstein Barr virus)

    • Mycotoxin or biotoxin related illness

    • Female health conditions (PMS, PCOS, menopause, fertility)

    • Heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome

    • MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome)

    • Supporting working with mental/emotional trauma in the creation of chronic illness

  • InHealthRVA’s Functional medicine approach is a combination of science, engineering and compassion.

At InHealthRVA, we work collaboratively to understand your body, your health goals and your life. Combining this with in-depth advanced Functional medicine labs and expanded blood work, we create Personalized2 health journeys to guide you to wellness.

After your 90 minutes initial appointment, we meet at regular intervals to evaluate your response to treatments, amend your health plan accordingly and together decide the next steps of your health journey to wellness.

Treatment plans aim to support all areas of your health and reasons for your health issues, in whatever ways you feel up for doing. We use diet and lifestyle therapies, research-based natural protocols (herbs and supplements), prescriptions, acupuncture and referrals to other specialists including counselors, physical and massage therapists or even surgery if necessary.

Our aim is to support you in healing all areas of your body and mind so you can have the health you want to live your best life possible!

  • InHealthRVA’s treatment process is very much like a scientific research project. After your initial 90 minute visit, we meet at regular intervals (every 1-3 months, depending on your condition(s)) to analyze your response to therapies, any new labs and assess your goals and ability to implement treatment plans. Based on all of this information, we construct the next step(s) of your personalized health plan. We repeat this process until you are in a maintenance pattern of optimal health.

Like any scientific process (and life in general), we understand that setbacks and ‘falling off the wagon’ are not ultimate failures, but simply information and part of any human life.

We can use setbacks or lapses as opportunities to better understand you, your body and know better how to plan and support your forward progress, knowing that the path towards health is rarely a straight line or stable plateau. We are your partners for each step of the process.
